WIC offers many educational resources to assist you to better support breastfeeding and other important practices. See the list below for a few resources we encourage you to incorporate into your practice and share with mothers and your community.

Texas WIC Surveys and Reports

ICD Codes for Breastfeeding Management and Support
Breastfeeding codes to ensure health care providers are reimbursed for breastfeeding management and support, both pre-and-postnatally.

Growth Charts
Texas WIC uses both the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) growth charts. For children birth to 24 months of age, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and CDC recommend using the WHO growth charts to monitor normal growth patterns for younger children.

For children 24 months of age and older, the AAP and CDC recommend using the CDC growth charts to monitor growth patterns for the older child.

Breastfeeding Lesson Plans

Breastfeeding Training for Health Care Providers
The Texas WIC Program offers breastfeeding courses to prepare health-care providers to support breastfeeding women and infants.

Breastfeeding and Medications:

LactMed
The LactMed® database contains information on drugs and other chemicals to which breastfeeding mothers may be exposed. A peer review panel reviews the data to assure scientific validity and currency.

Infant Risk Center
Information and resources for both health care providers and parents, including a hotline for immediate access to experts. Hosted by Texas Tech University.
