The purpose of this position is to provide professional and administrative support in the planning and conducting of public health nutrition services and programs. The Nutrition Education Coordinator is required by State WIC to ensure that a qualified, designated staff administers (plans, implements and evaluates) nutrition education. To assure that nutrition education is planned, scheduled and provided to address the nutritional needs of the program participants. This is accomplished by completing annual plans, ensuring agency and staff compliance, providing staff training and ensuring quality management for WIC nutritional services. The Public Health Dietitian implements procedures to ensure high risk participants receive education and counseling as needed and required by Texas WIC policy and procedures. A Public Health Dietitian will serve as a Preceptor for staff who are in training to become WIC Certification Specialists. The Dietitian also serves on the Quality Management team.

This part-time position is scheduled to work 18 hours per week during WCCHD WIC general business hours, which are Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m.–5:30 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. Specific workdays and hours will be determined based on the selected candidate’s availability and operational needs. This position is headquartered in Cedar Park and will travel to the different WCCHD WIC locations as needed. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required. Current certification as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) with the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLC)is required. Two (2) years of experience in clinic, hospital and/or public health environment, at minimum, is required. Experience providing customer service in a health-related role preferred. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred. CPR certified or willingness to obtain certification is required. Valid Texas driver’s license and access to reliable transportation with the ability to travel to multiple work locations is required. The IBCLC provides clinical lactation support and counseling for WIC clients who are having breastfeeding problems beyond the scope of the Breastfeeding Peer Counselor or Nutritionist’s skill levels; assists the Breastfeeding Coordinator with training of WIC employees; Follows the local agency High Risk Referral Policy and procedures for follow up with High-Risk Lactation Referrals; Accurately completes documentation as required per WIC policies and procedures; Schedules appointments and assists with other duties as assigned by WIC Team Lead or Director; Completes all required trainings as assigned; May teach breastfeeding classes and/or lead support groups for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, or mentor BFPCs leading group meetings as deemed appropriate; Provides lactation evaluation and consultations with WIC clients experiencing problems with breastfeeding by telephone, virtual video appointment or WIC in-clinic visit; Provides client care as appropriate within the scope of practice guidelines for an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC); Follows International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners Professional Standards; Receives referrals from breastfeeding peer counselors (BFPCs) other WIC staff, and local providers for WIC mothers who may be experiencing complex maternal and infant breastfeeding problems beyond their scope of practice or expertise; Provides concise, relevant, and sound lactation counseling; Refers mothers and infants in a timely manner when complexity of breastfeeding problems necessitates medical intervention or when problems are in an area other than breastfeeding; Ensures timely follow-up services; Complies with state and local WIC policies regarding the issuance of breast pumps and specialized equipment specific for breastfeeding problems as appropriate; Evaluates BF promotion/support activities and implements necessary changes to increase breastfeeding rates; Completes multi-user pump follow-up and retrieval protocol; Assists with inventory; Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.How to Apply: Submit application online at: governmentjobs.com/careers/wcchd
