Essential Functions:
- Provides nutrition services and expertise across all agency clinics: Assesses and counsels clients at high risk for nutritional deficiencies. Develop and implement nutritional education and breastfeeding plans. Approves formulas for participants with special needs. Consults with and coordinates care with physicians and/or other healthcare providers. Develop programs, nutrition education materials, and complete special projects. Provides breastfeeding education, support, problem resolution, and training on breastfeeding equipment/aids.
- Responsible for the timely completion of assigned WIC Program Functions: Ensures compliance with Quality Management requirements, including self-audits, corrective action plans, training, and meetings. Oversees the WIC certification specialist (WCS) Program, including hiring, training, and continuing education of agency WCSs. Coordinates the initial and ongoing training of WIC staff to ensure compliance with all training requirements. Coordinates agency outreach efforts to promote enrollment of new clients, with special focus on at-risk populations. Provides direct supervision and support to assigned administrative staff, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with program policies and procedures.
- Performs participant certification services and thorough documentation: Obtains blood samples and anthropometrics Reviews health history and determines nutritional risk codes; assigns the proper food package for issuance to participants. Reviews and determines the eligibility of participants Counsels individuals and families on nutrition; addresses nutritional concerns and goals of parent/guardian. Provides referrals to other health and social service providers.
- Maintains WIC facility to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment: Participates in cleaning restrooms, kitchen/break area, furniture, doors, windows, floors, and equipment. Remove trash to the proper disposal receptacle. Re-stocks supplies such as tissues, towels, soap, and hand sanitizer. Reports facility issues to the supervisor.
- Miscellaneous: Represents local agency at the community and state level. Provides outreach and program presentations to the public. Teaches nutrition education classes. Responds to information requests from staff, the State, and the public. Serves as the Nutrition and Breastfeeding Coordinator and develops annual plans. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field is required.
- Certification as a Registered Dietitian (RD) is required.
- Three (3) years of nutrition and/or public health experience.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
