    Job Description:

    Provides high-risk nutrition counseling; approves non-contract formulas after consulting with the doctor and state office, as needed; plans, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nutrition services in all WIC clinics; provides training and technical assistance to all staff; serves as the Nutrition/Breastfeeding Coordinator and develops and implements the annual plans.

    Essential Functions:

    1. Provides nutrition services and expertise across all agency clinics: Assesses and counsels clients at high risk for nutritional deficiencies. Develop and implement nutritional education and breastfeeding plans. Approves formulas for participants with special needs. Consults with and coordinates care with physicians and/or other healthcare providers. Develop programs, nutrition education materials, and complete special projects. Provides breastfeeding education, support, problem resolution, and training on breastfeeding equipment/aids.
    2. Responsible for the timely completion of assigned WIC Program Functions: Ensures compliance with Quality Management requirements, including self-audits, corrective action plans, training, and meetings. Oversees the WIC certification specialist (WCS) Program, including hiring, training, and continuing education of agency WCSs. Coordinates the initial and ongoing training of WIC staff to ensure compliance with all training requirements. Coordinates agency outreach efforts to promote enrollment of new clients, with special focus on at-risk populations. Provides direct supervision and support to assigned administrative staff, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with program policies and procedures.  
    3. Performs participant certification services and thorough documentation: Obtains blood samples and anthropometrics Reviews health history and determines nutritional risk codes; assigns the proper food package for issuance to participants. Reviews and determines the eligibility of participants Counsels individuals and families on nutrition; addresses nutritional concerns and goals of parent/guardian. Provides referrals to other health and social service providers.  
    4. Maintains WIC facility to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment: Participates in cleaning restrooms, kitchen/break area, furniture, doors, windows, floors, and equipment. Remove trash to the proper disposal receptacle. Re-stocks supplies such as tissues, towels, soap, and hand sanitizer. Reports facility issues to the supervisor.  
    5. Miscellaneous: Represents local agency at the community and state level. Provides outreach and program presentations to the public. Teaches nutrition education classes. Responds to information requests from staff, the State, and the public. Serves as the Nutrition and Breastfeeding Coordinator and develops annual plans. Performs other duties as assigned.  

    Minimum Qualifications:  

    • A bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field is required.
    • Certification as a Registered Dietitian (RD) is required.
    • Three (3) years of nutrition and/or public health experience.
    • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.

    Work Hours: 2 days, 8 AM - 7 PM; all other days M - F flexible

    Job Description:

    The purpose of this position is to provide professional and administrative support in the planning and conducting of public health nutrition services and programs. The Nutrition Education Coordinator is required by State WIC to ensure that a qualified, designated staff administers (plans, implements and evaluates) nutrition education. To assure that nutrition education is planned, scheduled and provided to address the nutritional needs of the program participants. This is accomplished by completing annual plans, ensuring agency and staff compliance, providing staff training and ensuring quality management for WIC nutritional services. The Public Health Dietitian implements procedures to ensure high risk participants receive education and counseling as needed and required by Texas WIC policy and procedures. A Public Health Dietitian will serve as a Preceptor for staff who are in training to become WIC Certification Specialists. The Dietitian also serves on the Quality Management team.

    Manages day-to-day operations of the WIC Clinic to comply with both State Agency and CNCPHD.

    Education/Licensure:
    Under general supervision of the Manager – Nutrition Program – WIC, to complete nutrition consultations, teaching nutrition education classes, providing hands-on guidance and demonstrating cooking techniques, assess and interrupt anthropometrics for participants, sharing all data in a non-judgmental and professional manner.

    Supervision Exercised: This position exercises no supervision.

    Important And Essential Duties Conduct nutritional assessments to evaluate developmental feeding appropriateness for infants, children, pregnant individuals, and breastfeeding participants. Counsel and educate patients on basic nutrition, meal planning, food purchasing, storage, and preparation to improve dietary habits and promote overall health. Screen program participants, assess nutritional needs, determine appropriate supplemental food packages, and provide individualized counseling with follow-up evaluations as necessary. Deliver individual and group education sessions on breastfeeding basics, general nutrition topics, and nutrition-related health concerns. Refer participants to medical, social, or emergency services within the public health district and community when needed. Attend community health fairs and special events to promote program awareness. Organize annual nutrition and breastfeeding health fairs. Conduct hands-on food demonstration classes to educate participants. Operates a City-owned, rental, or personal vehicle to travel to mandatory training, community outreach activities, and other work-related events as required. Other Job-related Duties Provide training to improve home safety and sanitation practices for individuals, families, and community groups.     Experience And Training Guidelines For positions with more than one level, all listed requirements at the lower levels are required at the higher levels. Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying.

    Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:
    Experience A minimum of one (1) of professional experience in the field of food and nutrition is required. Education/Training Bachelor’s degree in food science and nutrition or a related field from an accredited college or university, including a minimum of 12 credit hours in nutrition is required. Coursework in child development, family relations, and consumer science education is preferred. License Or Certificate A valid Texas Driver’s License, the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days of employment, or a military waiver is required.

    Special Requirements Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
    Bloodborne Pathogens training and HIPAA Compliance training are required within sixty (60) days of employment. First Aid/CPR certification and recertification are required following employment.
