    Job Description:

    Under the supervision of the Director, the certifying authority is responsible for certifying nutritional risk conditions at the time of certification and prescribing supplemental foods.

    Education/Licensure:

    Bachelor's or Master’s degree from an accredited college with at least 12 hours of food and nutrition and at least 6 hours of science.

    Nutrition Professional as defined by Texas WIC Policy for a Certifying Authority including:

    • Registered or licensed vocational nurse (RN/LVN)
    • Registered or Licensed Dietician (RD/LD)

    Essential Functions:

    According to WIC policy, performs and documents Certifying Authority (CA) duties, including nutritional risk evaluation and individual counseling. Teaches nutritional education classes or helps with technician duties. Prepares bulletin boards and other NE materials. Complete and attend all required training. Be completely cross-trained to do all computer activities as well as all clerical duties.

    Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

    Knowledge of the WIC program. Service-oriented. Keyboarding and organizational skills. Writing and oral skills to allow effective communication. Skill in exercising discretion, confidentiality, and use of sound independent judgment. Ability to change and learn new skills. Good health and physical condition sufficient to permit full performance of the position. Bilingual in Spanish, preferred.

    Job Description:

    Supervises the overall productivity of the clinic and staff. Provides nutrition information and services to promote and maintain proper nutritional practices, health protection and care.

    Position Key Accountabilities:

    1. Manages the daily clinic activities. Involves maintaining adequate caseload, efficient patient flow, proper customer service, ordering supplies, and ensuring a positive physical clinic environment.

    • Must be able to observe the general physical condition of clients to detect signs of abnormalities.
    • Must be knowledgeable of community health and social service resources.
    • Basic computer experience is required.
    • Must be able to work with individuals with varying socio-economic, cultural, and educational backgrounds.
    • Must be able to work within a team concept.
    • Must be able to correctly interpret policies and procedures.
    • Must be able to record observations completely and accurately.
    • Must have counseling experience.
    • Prior public speaking experience is preferred.
