How to Make It

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces spaghetti pasta (try whole wheat for more fiber)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, peeled and minced
  • 1 pound lean ground beef (85/15)
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

1
Cook pasta according to package and drain.
2
Sauté onion and garlic in the olive oil until golden.
3
Add ground meat and cook until no longer pink.
4
Add the tomato sauce, tomatoes, oregano, and basil.
5
Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes; sauce will thicken slightly.
6
Serve meat sauce over spaghetti and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.
Recipe Tips

Use smaller pasta shapes like penne or shells for toddlers. They’re easier for tiny fingers to pick up! Or change it up by using ground turkey instead of ground beef. To make allergen friendly, swap out the ingredients to fit your family’s needs. For example, use gluten-free pasta to make gluten- and wheat-free.
