Texas Ten Step Program

Supports breastfeeding mothers and babies

The Health and Human Services Commission’s Texas Ten Step Program (TTS) provides birthing facilities with technical assistance, resources, and is the framework to help improve breastfeeding outcomes through incremental adoption of the WHO/UNICEF Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding (Ten Steps).

Designation is awarded to facilities that address 85 percent of the Ten Steps and are jointly designated through the Texas Mother-Friendly Worksite program. Facility information is voluntary and self-reporting; technical assistance is offered throughout the application process. The TTS program encourages facilities to earn further designation through the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, the recommended standard of care.
