Changes to WIC Foods

 

Attention WIC Shoppers. Check out what’s new with WIC foods.

New WIC Foods

Texas WIC offers more choices than ever before. Here are some new foods that will be available starting April 1, 2026. Check the shopping guide on myWIC for details on what you can buy. 

Fish

All women and children 1-5 years old get fish on their WIC benefits.

  • Choose any brand of chunk light tuna, pink salmon, sardines or mackerel in cans or pouches.

Whole Grains

More food options, sizes and varieties are available. Whole grains are now on your benefits in ounces.

  • Choose any brand of whole wheat bread in 12 to 24-ounce packages.
  • Choose any brand of whole wheat bagels or buns, whole wheat tortillas, corn tortillas, brown rice, whole wheat pasta and bulgur.
  • Choose from specific brands of oatmeal, quinoa and corn masa flour. Check the shopping guide on myWIC to see which brands are WIC approved.

Yogurt

Women and children 2-5 years old get low-fat or nonfat yogurt and 1-year-old children get whole milk yogurt.

New low-fat and nonfat yogurts include:

  • Activia 4-pack of 4-ounce cups (16 ounces) Low-fat Mango, Mixed Berry, Peach, Prune, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana, Vanilla
  • Lucerne Low-fat Vanilla 32 ounces
  • Oikos Triple Zero Greek Plain 32 ounces
  • Smart Way Greek Nonfat Plain 32 ounces

New whole milk yogurts include:

  • H-E-B Organics Kids 4-pack of 4-ounce cups (16 ounces) Whole Milk Mixed Berry, Strawberry, Strawberry Banana

Pea Protein Milk

Ripple pea protein milk is available to all women and children. You do not need medical documentation for pea protein milk. Just let the staff at your WIC office know if you want it so they can put it on your benefits.  

More Fruits and Vegetables Instead of Juice

All women and children 1-5 years old get $3 more to spend on fresh, frozen or canned fruits and vegetables instead of juice. Total fruit and vegetable benefits now include the following:

  • Children get $29 each month
  • Pregnant, postpartum and some breastfeeding women get $51 each month
  • Fully and partially breastfeeding women get  $55 each month

If you prefer juice, you can get one container of juice instead of the extra $3 for fruits and vegetables. Please ask the staff at your WIC office about this substitution.

These foods became available on December 1, 2025

Breakfast Cereal

Choose any size from 8 ounces to 36 ounces.  

New breakfast cereals include:

  • Cheerios Hearty Nut Medley
  • Mighty Life Strawberry Blueberry Bliss and Very Vanilla
  • Mija Corn Flakes, Crispy Rice, Honey Oat Flakes and Honey Oat Flakes with Almonds
  • Motts Apple Cinnamon and Very Berry
  • Post Bran Flakes
  • Special K Cinnamon Pecan

Soy Milk

Soy milk is available to all women and children. You do not need medical documentation for soy milk. Just let the staff at your WIC office know if you want it so they can put it on your benefits.

Soy milk can be in half-gallons, 96-ounce containers or 32-ounce containers. New soy milk options include:

  • Silk Unsweet Soymilk
  • Silk Vanilla Soymilk

These foods became available on April 1, 2025

Fresh Herbs

You can now use your cash value benefit for fruits and vegetables to buy fresh herbs such as cilantro, mint, parsley, and more.

Sunflower Seed Butter

You can get sunflower seed butter with your “beans or peanut butter” benefits. Choose any brand in a 16- to 18-ounce container.

Baby Food Fruit and Vegetable Containers

Two-packs of 2-ounce containers are now available.  

More Baby Food Options for Fruits and Vegetables

Infants 6-11 months can get a cash value benefit for fruits and vegetables instead of half or all of their jarred baby food fruits and vegetables. WIC staff need to go over some information with you before they can make this change on your WIC card, so ask at your next visit or call your WIC office to make an appointment.
