Finish off your meal with a warm apple crisp, just like Grandma used to make! This cozy dessert uses baked apples and a brown sugar oat topping. Add chopped walnuts or pecans for extra crunch.
How to Make It
Ingredients
- 5 cups apples; peeled and sliced (about 8 medium)
- 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
- ½ cup rolled oats
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup butter
- ¼ cup chopped nuts (optional)
Preparation
1
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2
Place apples in a 2 quart square baking dish; stir in granulated sugar.
3
In a separate bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, flour, and cinnamon.
4
Cut in butter with 2 knives until mixture becomes like coarse crumbs.
5
Stir nuts into topping and sprinkle over apples.
6
Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden.
Recipe Tips
Leave out nuts if serving to young children because of the choking risk. To make allergen friendly, swap out the ingredients to fit your family’s needs. For example, use gluten-free flour and oats to make gluten- and wheat-free.
