How to Make It

Ingredients

  • 1 large apple, any variety
  • 1 medium pear, any variety
  • 2 medium bananas
  • Dash of cinnamon or nutmeg (optional)

Preparation

1
Thoroughly wash all fresh produce.
2
Peel and chop apple and pear into small ½ inch chunks
3
Place ½ cup chopped apples and 1/3 cup chopped pears into a microwave-safe dish or bowl with 1-2 tablespoons of water.
4
Microwave the apple and pear mixture for 2-2 ½ minutes until fork-tender.
5
While apple and pear cook, peel bananas and break into chunks. Add banana pieces to a blender.
6
Remove apple and pear mixture from microwave. Using a slotted spoon, carefully remove fruit from the bowl and add to a blender. Reserve cooking water in bowl if needed for thinning.
7
Add 2 tablespoons of breastmilk, formula or reserved cooking water to the blender. Add a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.
8
Blend until smooth and creamy, until all chunks and lumps are gone. If needed, add additional breastmilk, formula or water 1 tablespoon at a time to reach desired consistency.
9
Allow to cool before serving. Yields approximately 12 ounces.
Storage Guidelines:
10
Separate a small amount for your baby to eat and save the rest in the fridge or freezer. For food safety, do not save any leftovers from the portion you serve your baby.
11
Refrigerator: Store in fridge for up to 3 days.
12
Freezer: Cover and freeze portions in an ice cube tray. Once the cubes are frozen, pop them out and store in a freezer bag for up to 3 months.
Recipe Tips

Make prep even easier by using canned pears. Simply drain excess liquid and add pears to the blender – no peeling or microwaving needed.

Add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice to help prevent the fruit puree from browning.
